Strategic Approach

  1. Community Empowerment: Through pieces of training, information dissemination, and community education forums, IPF imparts IPs and other marginalized groups with the requisite skills needed to advocate for and attain their cultural and other rights.
  2. Interactive Forums and Engagements: This entails creating platforms for deliberations between IPs themselves and other actors (government, CSOs, other communities, private corporations, academics, and all other stakeholders) to enable IPs to express their concerns regarding actions of the actors such as intended development plans by government and extractive industry practices by private corporations. The forums aim at promoting participation and give an audience to the concerns of IPs and marginalized groups.
  3. Policy Advocacy: Policy Advocacy efforts are mainly used to ensure that policies, legislation, and other regulations set by the government secure the cultural and other rights of IPs.
  4. Capacity Building of State and Other Actors on IP Rights: This entails training, exposing, and providing information to the state and other actors such as private corporations and other dominant communities whose decisions affect IPs on the concerns and rights of IPs and the need and obligation to incorporate these in the decisions that directly affect IPs.
  5. Litigation: IPF will utilize legal mechanisms available to ensure access to justice for IPs that face violation of their cultural rights and will use litigation as a means of promoting and securing these rights.
  6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting: IPF will continue monitoring and evaluating the government’s enactment and implementation of policies and legislation – local, national, regional, and international – and report on this to oversight bodies established to ensure the implementations such as the national government (in the case of local governments) and the African Union and United Nations Commissions (in the case of national government)
  7. Research and Publications: IPF conducts continuous research on the promotion of IP culture with the view of identifying challenges faced and recommending solutions to these challenges based on best case studies, legislative, and other provisions. In the cases of positive efforts towards the promotion of IP Culture and human rights up-scaling is recommended. Such research is to be published and disseminated for wide influence and will equally be used to empower IPs on alternatives available locally and internationally to advocate for and attain their rights.
  8. Media: The media (audio-visual, print, and internet-based) is utilized to promote the culture of IPs with a view of gaining respect and acceptance from other communities and eventually promoting peaceful co-existence, appreciation for diversity, social justice, and culture tolerance among all communities.
  9. Information Exchange and Dissemination Platforms: Through our worldwide interactive website people of all cultures are enabled to explore more about culture and tolerance, join discussion groups, connect with like-minded cultural activists, sign up for events, share photos or videos, and even post their blogs. Members of the public are facilitated with resources on investment, devolution, and leadership skills and offered opportunities for constructive dialogue through group discussions and blog posts. IPs are able to interact and engage with IPs across the country, region, continent, and the world over to draw support and solidarity for their concerns.
  10. Cultural Events: Cultural events are held to promote and celebrate the cultures of IPs with a view of promoting diversity and celebrating culture. This includes cultural exhibitions, cultural exchange visits, documentaries profiling different IP cultures positively, and attendance of IPs to different local, national, regional, and international fora for the promotion of IP culture. It is expected that this will result to positive attitudinal changes towards IP culture leading to peaceful coexistence with other communities.
